Community Litter Pick – A Successful Day of Action and Unity

Date of Event: Saturday, 24th May 2025
Organised by: Wider Community Engagement (WCE), Hockwell Ring Masjid
Starting Point: Hockwell Ring Masjid, LU4 9HT
Time: 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM
Hockwell Ring Masjid was proud to host the latest Community Litter Pick, a part of our ongoing commitment to community wellbeing and the Keep Luton Tidy initiative. Organised by the Wider Community Engagement (WCE) team, the event saw enthusiastic participation from around 30 volunteers, including brothers, sisters, and even a few members of the non-Muslim community.
Event Kickoff and Briefing
The event began with a welcome and briefing session inside Hockwell Ring Masjid at 10:30 AM. Volunteers received health and safety guidance, along with a detailed breakdown of the day’s agenda. Everyone was equipped with gloves and litter pickers to ensure the cleanup was carried out safely and efficiently.
Team Coordination and Cleanup
Volunteers were divided into small teams, each led by a team leader. This well-organised structure allowed for thorough coverage of surrounding streets and ensured a productive and enjoyable experience for everyone. For over two hours, participants worked hard, collecting litter from the neighborhood. In total, an impressive 34 bags of rubbish were collected — a fantastic effort that clearly demonstrates the power of teamwork and community spirit.
Post-Cleanup Gathering
After the cleanup, volunteers gathered back at the masjid for refreshments. The post-event gathering provided a much-needed break and an opportunity to relax, socialize, and reflect on the impact of their efforts. Many shared their positive experiences and voiced a strong desire to continue supporting similar initiatives in the future.
Why It Matters
Community cleanups like this not only improve our environment but also strengthen the bonds between residents. They serve as reminders of the shared responsibility we hold in maintaining our public spaces and instil a sense of pride and care for our town. The WCE team remains committed to supporting these values and promoting civic engagement through regular initiatives.
